It's had to believe we've reached the end of 2023 already. Time seems to be sprinting faster than ever. While clocks and calendars march on at a steady pace, life dances to its rhythm. Just last month, we were gathered to express gratitude for the myriad blessings in our lives, and now, it's the season of giving and sharing—the enchanting Christmas Season. This edition celebrates just that, and our chosen cover speaks volumes about the joy we aim to spread.

Reflecting on the magical years of our youth, Christmas was a time of wonder—school breaks, a crisp chill in the air, plenty of festivities like parades adorned with school bands and ROTC units, local dignitaries waving from convertibles, and the much-anticipated sight of Santa on a festive float. I remember the aluminum foil Christmas tree with the color wheel, which seems so nostalgic now.

Presents neatly stacked underneath, and the abundance of delicious holiday fare—those were carefree times that linger in our hearts.

As the years passed, we transitioned from those wide-eyed children into adults, sometimes forgetting the sheer bliss of that magical season, unfortunately.

We've experienced the hustle and bustle as parents of four children (now empty nesters), navigating the stress, expenses, and occasional sense of imposition that accompanied the season. Yet, come Christmas morning, our children proved the actual value of our efforts—the joy on their faces made it all worthwhile.

The essence of the season, however, remains unchanged—it's about giving, being present in the lives of our loved ones, and embracing humanity. Flip to page 20 for an inspiring Humanist of West Florida article about their efforts to address food insecurities in Northwest Florida. It's a gift to share our blessings with the less fortunate, especially the children—those gleeful faces when they spot Santa is priceless.

Yet, not every child experiences such bliss. Some face life's hardships and unfortunate circumstances—organizations like Valarie’s House step in to soften life's blows. Check out the enlightening article on page 22 to learn more about their impactful work in our local area.

A poignant Facebook post recently caught my eye: "Christmas is not a mandatory Holiday." So true! If financial struggles weigh on you, consider a more precious gift than material possessions—your time and attention. Discover the healing power of giving and receiving in the feature article on page 28, "The Grace of Giving and Receiving-Healing Through Generosity."

And if you find yourself shopping for presents, consider supporting local businesses—they are the lifeblood of our "local" economy. Remember, when you shop online with giants like Amazon, your money departs the local economy.

Our Natural Awakenings family wishes you a warm and Merry Christmas surrounded by family and friends. Let's join our hearts in prayer for peace in the world and reconnect with the enchantment of Christmas, just as a child sees it.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
