Natural Awakenings Northwest Florida

Dash for the Trash During Earth Week : The Okaloosa County Environmental Council (OCEC), the Tourist Development Council and the County Commissioners are sponsoring a Community Clean Up to celebrate Earth Week, from April 16 to 22.

The Earth Day Beach Cleanup will take place from 8 to 10 a.m. April 21. Dress comfortably, wear sunscreen, use protective gloves and drink plenty of water.

Citizens are encouraged to get out and clean up their local community and neighborhoods. All county residents and community civic, volunteer, school, and environmental organizations are encouraged to schedule activities to promote neighborhood trash pickup, anti-litter education and environmental awareness throughout the week. All trash should be disposed using the usual collection and removal services within your city or unincorporated county.

For managing waste collected in unincorporated areas of county: recyclables can go in your curbside recycling bin; non-recyclable garbage/litter should be bagged and placed in your curbside garbage container at home; yard trash can be placed at the curb for pickup by your hauler; and bulk waste can be placed at the curb for collection–call your hauler for a special pickup.
