New Children’s Books Address Wildlife Issues

Doreen Ingram
Doreen Ingram writes children's books about endangered wildlife (specifically great apes and big cats), conservation and sanctuary life for these animals after rescues. Two were written to help Chimp Eden, a Jane Goodall sanctuary in South Africa. Another was written to help a big cat sanctuary in Arizona called Keepers of the Wild. Fifty percent or more of book sales go to these sanctuaries and more. The beautiful artwork is done by former Gulf Breeze student Josh Green.
Each book has been written to encourage empathy and understanding for endangered wildlife and their declining habitats by telling their stories of abuse and eventual rescues by some very special sanctuaries. Ingram is also developing a Great Apes board game to go along with the series of sanctuary books.
She states, “Children and adults learn how devastating it would be for these animals to lose their homes and be sold to humans as pets or for entertainment purposes. As they read the books, they will also learn about the different animals habitats, eating habits, habitat destruction and conservation, physical descriptions of endangered wildlife and more.”
