Natural Awakenings Northwest Florida

Hands Across the Sand Comes to Pensacola Beach

Hosted by 350 Pensacola, a local Hands Across the Sand gathering will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., May 16, in solidarity with events across the globe to raise awareness about the dangers of offshore drilling and call on leaders to end our oil dependence and move to a clean energy future. At noon, participants will join hands for 15 minutes to form a line along Pensacola Beach.

Participants are encouraged to walk, bike, paddle carpool or use mass transit to the beach. The event will feature guest speakers and Jo Billups and Karen Harvill, the folk music duo Sassafrass. These singer/songwriters are serious environmental activists who have played for Greenpeace dockings, the WWF in Copenhagen, the Sierra Club, climate conferences and festivals.

Hands Across the Sand is endorsed by national environmental organizations such as Southern Alliance for Clean Energy, Oceana, Surfrider Foundation, Sierra Club, Friends of the Earth, Gulf Restoration Network and the Center for a Sustainable Coast.

Location; Park West Gulf Side, 41 Fort Pickens Rd., Pensacola Beach. For more information, call Elaine Sargent at 850-572-7230, email [email protected] and visit HandsAcrossTheSand.org.
