A Bad Day of Fishing is Better Than a Good Day at Work

Nonprofit Heroes On The Water, based in Allen, Texas, has come to the Emerald Coast. They are devoted to providing wounded warriors and all military personnel that have been wounded, injured or disabled the opportunity to experience the unique healing experience of fishing as a therapeutic practice.

This simple activity has proven to be powerful source of rehabilitation for thousands of warriors that have put their lives on the line for their country. Some have never fished before, while others rediscover what was assumed to be lost. This innovative form of physical and mental therapy shatters the perceived limits of those missing an arm or a leg. With volunteers as guides, they learn new skills and renew focus on what can be done, not what cannot. It provides a circle of fellowship among those that share common scars, both external and internal.

This program is also great therapy for those that have wounds deeper than the skin, and provides a chance for victims of post-traumatic stress disorder, which is often very difficult to treat, a chance to begin healing from the inside out.
