FOG Station at Ever’man is Ready for the Holidays

Ever’man Cooperative Grocery & Cafe and Emerald Coast Utilities Authority (ECUA) have partnered to dispose of household cooking oil and grease. Ever’man encourages members, shoppers and community members to pick up a free container at the store and return it filled, free of charge, to the ECUA Cooking Oil Disposal Station located at Ever’man.

Fats, oils, and grease (FOG) are deemed seasonal hazards, and the ECUA Residential Cooking Oil and Grease Disposal Program was developed to assist residents with the capture and disposal of their cooking oil and grease in an environmentally safe and effective way.

The holidays are a time when more people are cooking higher-fat-content foods, deep-fat-frying their turkeys and enjoying large family meals. The amount of FOG entering the sewer system increases, as does the potential for problems. Jim Roberts, ECUA public information strategist, notes, “One of the best ways people can keep FOG out of the ECUA sewer system is to keep it from entering into their drains. Not only does it help prevent sanitary sewer overflows, it can help people avoid their own costly plumbing problems.”

Location: 315 W. Garden St., Pensacola. For more information, call 850-438-0402 or visit Everman.org.
