Global Yoga Event Is A Call for Peace

The eighth annual Global Mala Yoga event to promote peace will be held in downtown Fort Walton Beach on September 24, beginning at 10:30 a.m. in the grassy area behind Burrito Del Sol. “The purpose is to bring our local yoga community together at the same time as others around the world to create a powerful energetic intention of peace,” says yoga instructor Megan Welcher, who is hosting the free event along with Dragonfly Yoga Studies and Hot Yoga Om.

Local yoga instructors will donate their time and knowledge to lead a portion of 108 sun salutations. “It is not necessary to complete all or any of the sun salutations,” Welcher says. “Just bring your yoga mat and your intentions for peace, or just show up and just hold the space for peace.”

The Global Mala Project was founded in 2007 by the renowned yogini Shiva Rea. The idea was to join thousands of yoga students worldwide in collective yoga practices to bring meditation into action on International Peace Day.

Call 850-244-0184 for more information—or just show up with a mat and practice.
