Day of the Dead Celebration Kicks Off Foo Foo Fest

Art Beyond Walls and First City Art Center are joining forces to host the first-ever Day of the Dead Celebration from 5:30 to 10 p.m. on November 3, opening day of Pensacola’s Foo Foo Fest. The event and pre-event activities will celebrate the Day of the Dead, a traditionally Mexican holiday honoring family members who have passed away. The celebration will be held at FCAC, 1060 N. Guillemard St., Pensacola.

Festivities will include music by New Orleans band Sweet Crude, art, face painting, a second-line processional, a costume contest, food trucks, hot glass demonstrations, live story recordings, children’s activities and a Day of the Dead art market. Visitors will be invited to set up temporary altars in various areas of the festival grounds. They are encouraged to wear Day of the Dead attire or bright colors and carry a photo or token representing a loved one.

Art Beyond Walls and First City Art Center have planned many activities in October and the first week of November culminating in the Day of the Dead Celebration, such as workshops, art exhibits, graffiti bridge painting and a Day of the Dead Community Memorial Wall at FCAC. All events are family friendly and reasonably priced or free. Event volunteers are always needed; sign up at FCAC.

Tickets are $10 for adults or $5 for ages 18 and under. They are available at FCAC. For more information, visit FirstCityArt.org.
