Raquel Skidmore, MD
Dr. Raquel Skidmore of Gulf Coast Holistic and Primary Care in Panama City has registered as a compassionate care medical marijuana physician on the Emerald Coast. Her practice currently offers both traditional medical care and more holistic treatments, such as acupuncture, herbal medicines and diet planning. “By combining holistic and primary care, we focus our efforts on restoring physiological balance and correcting patients’ optimal state of natural health,” she says.
Skidmore’s registration was in response to legislation establishing a regulatory framework for the prescribing of low-THC and medical cannabis in the state of Florida for patients with one of the following conditions: cancer, or any other physical medical condition that produces chronic symptoms of severe and persistent muscle spasms and seizures; or symptoms of cancer, or any other physical medical condition that produces chronic symptoms of severe and persistent muscle spasms and seizures. Governor Rick Scott signed the bill into law on June 16.
On November 8, Floridians will vote on Ballot Initiative Amendment 2, which would allow medical use of marijuana for individuals with debilitating medical conditions as determined by a licensed Florida physician. The Department of Health would register and regulate centers that produce and distribute marijuana for medical purposes and would issue ID cards to patients and caregivers.
Sponsored by the People United for Medical Marijuana, the amendment earned a spot on the November ballot by garnering 716,270 signatures—32,000 more than required. Because of its popular support, many experts believe that Ballot Initiative 2 will pass, thereby allowing patients diagnosed with a debilitating medical condition to obtain a cannabis certification allowing them to legally acquire and consume marijuana medically.
