Glass-on-Glass Mosaic Workshop at First City Art Center

First City Art Center (FCAC) in Pensacola will offer a three-part, all-levels workshop in glass-on-glass mosaic June 11, 18 and 25, from 1 to 4 p.m. The workshop is open to anyone aged 12 and up, with no previous experience required.

“In this workshop, participants will explore the steps of nipping and slicing, gluing and grouting colorful glass on glass,” says FCAC’s Lauren Lentile. The workshop will be led by Judy Betts. Tuition is $150.

Making a mosaic using the glass-on-glass technique is an easy way to turn an unremarkable piece of clear glass—a salvaged window in a rustic frame, for example—into a work of art. In general, the process involves creating a design to overlay the existing glass, and then cutting colored glass into freeform mosaic pieces and gluing them onto the clear glass. In recent years, glass-on-glass mosaics have become popular with do-it-yourselfers who want to create a personalized focal point for their homes.

Located at 1060 North Guillemard Street, FCAC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing art education, community outreach through art experiences, and working studio spaces for artists.
