Kids are a special focus at Navarre Living Yoga, which offers a continuum of classes for children at all stages of life—starting before they’re born.
True, Prenatal Yoga is more about mom than about baby. “We work to alleviate pregnancy-related discomforts by practicing gentle, modified yoga poses and breathing exercises,” owner Katharine Tabb says. But keeping mothers more comfortable as their bodies change makes pregnancy less stressful for everyone involved.
Prenatal Yoga is appropriate for expectant mothers at all stages of pregnancy, and helps prepare them for Mommy and Me, a class for new moms and their babies 6 weeks old to crawling. It’s also a welcoming environment where moms can feel comfortable nursing, diapering or otherwise tending to their babies, Tabb says.
Kids Yoga, which includes yoga, creative movement, literature and music, is a small class geared for pre-kindergarteners aged 3 to 5. Teacher Ann Hoffman has a bachelor’s degree in elementary and early childhood education and more than 20 years’ experience teaching children.
