Natural Awakenings Northwest Florida

Back to Woodstock Festival at Crystal Cottage

In 1985, Darce Blakely began praying for world peace. Over the years, she encouraged others of various spiritual traditions to join her. This faithful group soon outgrew her living room, converting her garage into a clubhouse for peaceful practices. In this “Crystal Cottage” in Panama City, they discuss topics from environmental conservation, gardening and healthy living to the mind, body and spirit. Now Blakely will co-host the Back to Woodstock Festival, which will be held at the Crystal Cottage September 23 from 1 to 10 p.m.

The festival will feature nine hours of live music on the Cottage’s lighted outdoor stage, belly dancers, card readers, vendors, and food and drinks. “We do a lot of earth-friendly things, such as natural basket weaving, and we encourage people to have a working market here so visitors can come see them doing their crafts, making jewelry and so forth,” Blakely says.

Many faiths and life paths will be represented, all focused on improving personal life and social conditions says Blakely, who describes herself as a Christian mystic. “I have always been spiritually led to do the right thing for people. Growing up, I went to church religiously but never felt like I fit into any of them. I found that my goal in life is for all religions to recognize our similarities and let go of or differences—to honor and love one another. The Crystal Cottage is probably one of the only places where Buddhists, Baptists, Catholics, pagans and Native Americans pray together for peace under one roof. We are here to welcome all religions.”

The festival is open to the public. Proceeds will be shared with Bay County Domestic Violence Program. For tickets and vendor information, visit CrystalCottage.net.

The Crystal Cottage is located at 7338 Hwy. 2301, Panama City, Fl.
