Panacea Naturopathic Opens in Fort Walton Beach

Miranda Huepers

Panacea Naturopathic, a collaborative group of six naturopathic doctors, three licensed massage therapists and one registered dietitian, recently opened in Fort Walton Beach. It offers massage therapy and nutrition services, as well as naturopathic consultations in person and in 26 states through a secure tele-health platform.

“Naturopathic medicine is a distinct form of primary care that focuses on the prevention and treatment of disease utilizing the least invasive, most natural methods available,” says founder and clinic director Miranda Huepers, ND. “Legitimate naturopathic doctors, or NDs, attend in-residence, nationally accredited four-year graduate-level naturopathic medical schools and are educated in all the same basic sciences as a medical doctor, or MD, but also study holistic and nontoxic approaches to therapy, with a strong emphasis on disease prevention and optimizing wellness.” In addition to a standard medical curriculum, a naturopathic doctor also studies clinical nutrition, homeopathic medicine, botanical medicine, psychology and counseling.

Huepers says a family history of cancer fed her passion for oncology. “My great-grandmother, grandmother, mother and brother were all diagnosed with various forms of cancer. Then when I was 17, I had my own run-in with cancer. Fortunately, my mother, my brother and I were able to overcome our diagnoses through a combination of conventional and alternative therapies.”

She attended an allopathic medical school before switching to naturopathic medicine, because she didn’t like the “perpetual cycle” of prescribing medications to mask symptoms without addressing their root cause.

“By using protocols that minimize the risk of harm, NDs facilitate the body’s inherent ability to restore and maintain optimal health,” she says.
