Ever’man’s ‘Mission’ Shines in Crisis

Ever since it began serving the Gulf Coast 45 years ago, Ever'man Cooperative Grocery & Café, in Pensacola, has been more than a retail store. It’s also been a company on a mission. This year, as the Covid-19 pandemic wears on, Ever’man’s community focus has never been more relevant.

“We’re grounded in a rich history and driven by our commitment to actively create a healthier, vibrant community,” says General Manager William Rolfs. “We continue to be the local source for natural and organic foods, as well as providing education about conscious living.” The store hosts a variety of classes at its Garden Street Educational Center and outdoor classes at its Nine Mile Road location.

Ever'man also continues to be a strong community partner—especially now, when the pandemic has created unprecedented hardship and stress for almost everyone.

With many local families struggling to put food on the table, Ever’man has been there to help through its Food Donation Program. Several times a week, Waterfront Rescue Mission picks up donations from both Ever’man locations for use in its breakfast, lunch and dinner programs. St. Joseph Soup Kitchen makes pickups twice a week, using the donations at its five distribution centers, where it distributes hot meals every other Monday.

“Giving back to our community is very important to us,” Rolfs says. “That’s why we support the efforts of nonprofit groups who support the health and well-being of our communities and the environment. We donate products, hold educational classes and provide product donations to multiple organizations. Not just food banks, but also animal shelters, disaster-relief organizations, local charities, schools and other nonprofit organizations.”

Ever’man partners with other 501c3 charities through its Eco-Friendly Bag Donation Program. Every other month, three new charities are chosen to receive five cents for every reusable bag customers bring through the checkout line. The store is also known for donating to charities and sponsoring charitable events.
