The Great Outdoors Starts Right Where You Are

This month we’re embracing the thrill of everyday exploration with a “microadventure mindset”—finding natural splendor in the quiet beauty that surrounds us every day rather than faraway escapes. Whether it’s casting a line in the Blackwater River, floating down a spring-fed creek or simply soaking up the sun on our sugar-white beaches, Northwest Florida is brimming with nearby magic.
One of my fondest memories as a parent is camping in the backyard with my boys. The stars didn’t shine less bright just because we were a few steps from the kitchen. We had fireflies, s’mores and giggles under the tent—and all the wonder of the wild without needing to pack the car. Those small simple moments are the heart of this month’s issue. In “The Microadventure Mindset” you’ll find inspiration for planning your own nearby escape, whether that’s a sunrise walk, backyard picnic or moonlit paddle. We’ve also included “Sun-Kissed Not Stressed,” a must-read guide to protecting and replenishing your skin naturally after time outdoors. “Protein-Forward Breakfasts” will power your adventures and “The Power of Outdoor Play” reminds us how essential nature is to a child’s development. Even our furry companions get attention in “Alleviating Arthritis in Dogs.”
For the green thumbs (or the aspiring ones), this issue overflows with eco-friendly ideas: get creative with “Rescuing Old Items for Garden Décor” and reimagine your yard as a regenerative oasis with “Edible Landscapes.” You might just find the inspiration to turn an old teapot into a planter or that rusty ladder into a living sculpture.
We hope this issue helps you slow down, breathe deeper and rediscover the beauty that’s right outside your door. The world is wilder and more wonderful than we think—sometimes we just need a little nudge to go out and meet it.
With sunshine and gratitude,
Daralyn and Scott Chase
