Laughter Yoga Training in Destin

Helen and Craig Whitley, certified Laughter Yoga teachers and co-owners of Blue Skies Counseling, Coaching and Hypnosis, Inc., based in Woodstock, Georgia, are coming to TOPS’L Beach & Racquet Resort, in Destin, October 1-2, to train and certify Laughter Yoga leaders. Helen, a licensed clinical social worker, and Craig, a certified hypnotherapist and happiness coach, have been teaching Laughter Yoga in the Southeast for several years.

Laughter Yoga, now practiced daily in more than 65 countries, began in 1995 when Dr. Madan Kataria, a physician practicing in Mumbai, India, became convinced of the medical benefits provided by both laughter and yogic breathing exercises. He combined the two, including at least 20 minutes of several different types of laughter a day.

The resulting Laughter Yoga was mentioned on The Oprah Winfrey Show, and Winfrey said, “It is a perfect way to laugh and get exercise at the same time.”

The course, scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days, will explore the history and latest research on laughter and Laughter Yoga and teach how to facilitate groups and individual laughing exercises. New leaders will be prepared to start a Laughter Club and to market their services to corporations, health care and senior living facilities, fitness centers and more.

Licensed social workers and counselors can earn up to 11 core CEUs by completing the training. Those who don’t care to be certified as a leader, but wish to learn about the benefits of therapeutic laughter, may attend only the first day of the training.

Cost: $295; 30-day advance, $275; groups of two or more paid 30 days in advance, $250 each; seniors and students, $225. Lunch is included. Location: TOPS’L Beach & Racquet Resort, 9011 U.S. Hwy. 98 W., Miramar Beach 32550. For information, contact Craig Whitley at 770-517-3363, ext. 5 or [email protected].
