When Tena Scallan gave up her home caregiving business, she had accumulated years of experience and wisdom. Wanting to improve the industry and help caregivers, children of elderly parents and the elderly themselves, she compiled that knowledge in The Ultimate Compassionate Guide to Caregiving, an innovative reference tool to guide home caregivers and the elderly through everyday tasks and challenges, large and small. Now Scallan has launched a new blog, TheUltimateCaregivingExpert.com, to make her proven advice even more widely available.
Through her book and her blog, she hopes to help with the many problems facing today’s home caregiving services by assisting and educating those in the eldercare business as well as family members providing care to their aging loved ones at home. “As we grow older, caregiving gets more complex and complicated,” she says. “But aging or illness does not have to result in giving up your home or your lifestyle.”
She says worries about her own future have driven her to seek solutions to the caregiving crisis. “I will be a senior citizen one day, and it scares me to death to know how things will evolve for my own caregiving, healthcare and retirement,” she says. “As of 2015, we are in crisis mode, and between the Millennials, the baby boomers, and the sandwich generation, we are heading for catastrophe if we do not trying and fix it now.”
