Chiropractic Blends Adjustments, Complementary Therapies to Treat Chronic Pain

Anyone who thinks chiropractors just “crack backs” hasn’t visited Positive Chiropractic Solutions in Navarre. Dr. Amanda Williams, a chiropractic physician, says her practice offers not just a wide variety of adjustment techniques, but also treatments like muscle release therapy, electrical stimulation, cold laser, ultrasound, kinesiology taping and essential oil recommendations, for a personalized, long-lasting, natural solution to chronic pain.

Williams notes that chronic pain develops over years of wear and tear on the spine, joints and muscles—often from an early age. The process of childbirth is hard on a baby’s neck and spine, children take lots of tumbles, and adults have poor posture, car accidents and long-term stress. All those things lead to spinal problems.

“Small problems left untreated for many years develop into the bigger problems we see with chronic pain patients,” she explains. “Most people go their entire lives without having the spine checked or adjusted, until they have suffered with chronic pain or have a specific injury. Getting regular chiropractic adjustments helps counteract the daily wear and tear we sustain on our joints, which in turn prevents degenerative changes and chronic pain.”

Williams says chronic pain in the spine can be caused by stiff joints, muscle spasms or improper spinal alignment—problems that lead to inflammation and degenerative changes of the joints. “The chiropractic adjustment helps regain proper motion and alignment in the spine, which allows for less inflammation, less pain and helps the body work at 100 percent. The other modalities offered at our office focus on decreasing muscle spasm, reducing inflammation and promoting stability of the joints, which all aid in holding adjustments longer and increasing the success of long-term pain relief.”

The duration of an individual treatment plan depends on the severity of the problem, how long it has been present and how well the patient complies with the plan, she says. The average treatment plans at her office for chronic pain patients are 10 to 16 visits before the patient has reached a wellness state. After that, she says, monthly visits will maintain spine health and prevent future damage from occurring.
