Margo Dandreano and Kizie Tosi have partnered to form Practical Midwifery, a home birth team serving the Emerald Coast from Pensacola to Panama City. They will host a Meet the Midwives event at 7 p.m. on August 26, at Growing Green Families, in Valparaiso.

Dandreano, a certified professional midwife, is trained and licensed in Florida specific to out-of-hospital birth. Tosi, a certified nurse midwife and advance practice registered nurse, has medical training that enables her to care for clients from before conception through pregnancy, delivery and beyond.

The midwife model of care is extremely common in the United Kingdom and many other developed countries, and it can provide another valid and safe home birth option for families along the Emerald Coast, Dandreano says. 

“We can provide comprehensive prenatal, birth and postpartum care for healthy, low-risk families, whether or not this is their first baby,” she says. “We are trained in water birth as well as vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC), which is a legal option in Florida for out-of-hospital births.
