Humane Society Thrift Store Reopens after Hurricane Michael

Nov 06, 2020 04:41AM ● By Daralyn Chase

On October 10, exactly two years to the day that its first store was completely destroyed by Hurricane Michael, the Humane Society Thrift Store celebrated its grand reopening in a new location, in the Piggly Wiggly Shopping Center in Panama City.

The Thrift Store had been the main source of steady income for the Humane Society's nonprofit animal shelter, located at 1600 Bay Avenue in Panama City. According to the Humane Society, the shelter has been hard-pressed to keep its doors open since the Thrift Store was destroyed. With the store’s reopening in its new location, the Humane Society is hoping that will change, as community members resume shopping there to show support for homeless animals.

The Humane Society of Bay County is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization formed in 1980 for the purpose of sheltering and locating homes for homeless animals through adoptions. It became the county’s only no-kill shelter in 2006. Its mission is to end the destruction of homeless animals in the community by operating the shelter and providing protection, education, services and support for companion animals and their families.

Location: 1352 W. 15th St., Panama City, FL. For more information, call 850-215-7120 or visit AdoptMe.org.
