Fort Walton Beach Massage Therapist Now Treats Swelling Conditions

Nov 06, 2020 04:45AM ● By Daralyn Chase

Daniel Danio, a licensed massage therapist with BODYWORKS BY BULL THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE, in Fort Walton Beach, is now offering manual lymph drainage (MLD) and complete decongestive therapy (CDT) sessions.

“I’ve just completed the lymphedema certification, an intensive 135-hour course, employing specialized evaluation and treatment techniques for lymphedema and lymphatic swelling. CDT is considered the gold standard by medical professionals,” Danio says. “MLD is a highly specific light-touch manual therapy that can increase lymph transport and decrease edema (swelling) and lymphedema. We combine this treatment with strategic placement of kinesiology tape and mild decongestive exercises to maximize results.”

Lymphedema, characterized by protein-rich fluid accumulation in the tissues, can be harmful if left untreated, Danio says. Primary lymphedema can result from congenital defects and is relatively common. Secondary lymphedema can be caused by trauma to the lymphatic system, such as surgery (particularly mastectomy), injury, scarring, infection and radiation therapy.

MLD may be beneficial for a variety of conditions, including those associated with surgery, traumatic injury and hormonal swelling, Danio says. It may also improve healing, minimize scarring, speed up decongestion and natural detoxification, and ease stress and pain. CDT can help manage lymphedema affecting a variety of peripheral body parts.

“I am now able to differentiate between a variety of peripheral edemas, understand the medical indications and contraindications of CDT, and establish and perform a treatment plan for chronic extremity lymphedema and other conditions,” Danio says. “Lymphedema is a lifelong condition, but I can help you manage the symptoms to live your best life.”
