Sea Turtle Baby Shower Happening June 4

The Pensacola Beach Advocates, Island Times, the Santa Rosa Island Authority and the Pensacola Beach Chamber of Commerce are hosting their annual Sea Turtle Baby Shower on June 4, from 9 a.m. to noon, at the Gulfside Pavilion on Pensacola Beach.

This free, family-friendly, hands-on event is intended to educate visitors and locals about the nesting habits of sea turtles, including the dos and don’ts of helping nesting sea turtles as they return home to area beaches this season. Participants will also learn about the beach ecosystem and other animals that call the beach their home. There will be 20 exhibitors showcased, including Healthy Gulf, Escambia County Lifeguards and the National Park Service.

“Make sure to arrive early and take the sea turtle oath, and then pick up your activity booklet and  start visiting exhibitors,” says Rhonda Dorfman, president of Pensacola Beach Advocates. “Get your booklet stamped after you’ve learned something fun and exciting, and pick up your surprise.”

Participants can watch  Dan the Sand Man create a sand sculpture,  hear a story from Mendy the Mermaid, participate in the Trash Dash or collect sea grass with the Panhandle Manatees. Local deejay Boogie Inc. will be providing entertainment as well. Anyone making a $5 donation can

register for a drawing to become the reigning Sea Turtle Queen. The winner will receive a sea turtle tiara made by Nashville artist Sheri Tigue and will ride  in the Pensacola Beach Christmas Parade.
