Wellness Comes Alive

There’s something wonderfully energizing about walking into a room filled with people who are passionate about feeling better, living healthier and helping others do the same. You might arrive looking for one thing—and leave having discovered something you didn’t even know existed. That sense of possibility is one of my favorite things about whole-body wellness.
And September is the perfect month to explore it.
Our theme, Inner Balance, is a reminder that wellness isn’t simply about treating one symptom or improving one part of ourselves. Our physical health, emotions, nervous system, movement, nutrition, relationships and environment are beautifully interconnected. Sometimes healing begins by doing more, and sometimes it begins by slowing down enough to notice what our body has been trying to tell us.
That idea is at the heart of somatic healing. Body-centered practices invite us to pay attention to sensations, breath, movement and internal cues, helping us reconnect with ourselves in a deeper way. It’s a refreshing reminder that wellness isn’t always something we have to think our way through—we can experience it through the body, too.
And speaking of experiencing wellness… woohoo—it’s Expo time!
September 12 and 13 mark the 10th Annual Emerald Coast Holistic Health Expo at the Destin–Fort Walton Beach Convention Center. For an entire decade, we’ve had the joy of bringing our healthy-living community together for a weekend of discovery, connection and inspiration. This year, visitors can meet professionals representing integrative and functional medicine, nutrition, fitness, natural products, healthy lifestyle services, emerging wellness technologies and time-honored holistic practices. There will be demonstrations, samples, educational presentations, wellness assessments and plenty of opportunities to ask questions and have real, one-on-one conversations. Admission and parking are free, too!
What I love most about the Expo is that you don’t need to arrive knowing exactly what you’re looking for. Come curious. Ask questions. Try something new. You may discover a practitioner, therapy, product or idea that becomes an important piece of your own wellness journey.
That same spirit of discovery runs throughout this month’s issue. Our Community Spotlights, Therapy Spotlights and Wellness Experts introduce you to people right here in Northwest Florida who are approaching health from different angles while sharing an important goal: helping people live healthier, more balanced lives. They remind us why local connections matter. A magazine article can introduce an idea, but meeting the people doing this work in our community can turn information into action.
As we celebrate ten years of the Expo, I’m especially grateful for the practitioners, businesses, speakers, exhibitors, readers and attendees who have helped our holistic health community grow. What started as an event has become something much bigger—a place to connect people with resources and with one another.
So consider September your invitation to tune in, explore and reconnect with your whole self. Read about a therapy you’ve never considered. Meet a local wellness expert. Listen to your body a little more closely. And, of course, come spend the weekend with us at the Expo.
You never know what—or who—you might discover.
Here’s to finding your balance, naturally!
To healthier living,
Daralyn & Scott Chase
